Synergy ˈsɪnədʒi/ noun

synergy
ˈsɪnədʒi/
noun: synergy; plural noun: synergies; noun: synergism; plural noun: synergisms
the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
Origin – mid 19th century: from Greek sunergos ‘working together’, from sun- ‘together’ + ergon ‘work’.

This week most Kiwi’s were over the moon with the effort put in by Team NZ, especially for those of us who have been America’s cup enthusiasts since the KZ7 days, it was truly a great moment and was seemingly over very quickly – but then you could compare the whole process to an iceberg.

icebergOur visuals comprised of five race days and nine races, culminating in a win for Team NZ; but beneath the tip of the iceberg, there was an ‘Everest’  – a synergistic mountain.

In a week when two of the Weka mares are preparing to go to the races, I sat in front of the tele with my red sox on, and became absorbed in the post race analysis.   So many challenges along the way including Dalton’s revelations about the damaged foils and the close financial calls;  it  became evident that big money does not always guarantee you first place.  The qualities of knowledge, risk taking,  choosing the right people who are dedicated team players and so on,  this combination creates  SYNERGY!
I love that word.  The Oxford Dictionary describes it as ” the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.   Image result for alysha collettWhich brings me to the week ahead for us.  On Saturday Skyweka is back at the race track – this time at Te Rapa – Race 2 at 12.28pm, stepping up to 1600 metres with Alysha Collett our jockey for the race.  – welcome aboard Alysha  – Skyweka and all the Galloping Wekas will be cheering you on this Saturday

Before I return to the word Synergy – take a look at Skyweka’s history:

The summary of Skyweka’s career represents not only her ability as a thoroughbred mare but also the people who join forces to create the synergy of these moments in time; so much goes on behind the scenes to get Skyweka to peak fitness – let’s look at ‘the combined effect which is greater than the sum of their separate effects’.

Skyweka – we love you, we will be cheering for you; Tony Pike – top of our list; Tony’s family – family is everything; The stable team – thanks guys for all the early mornings and the dedication to looking after our Weka fillies; stable jockey;  race day jockey – enjoy the ride Alysha; Weather – clouds and wind acceptable but no rain in close proximity thank God;  track conditions – thank you Mr Track Man; the draw – #6;  the float driver – thanks mate; Skyweka’s handler for the day – we’ll shout you if she wins;  I’ve probably missed a few, but here is where I add a last but not least – The Galloping Weka’s.  Yes here is a message to all  124 Galloping Weka’s.  You are a special and select group of humans – risk takers who have joined forces to enable something potentially amazing to happen for these beautiful fillies.  Your combined actions have provided this family of fillies with an opportunity to test their limits and to have an opportunity to reach their full potential.  You are a part of something special.  Remember it doesn’t take a millionaire to be the front runner, all it takes is a group of people, risk takers with a dream and the will and co-operation to make it all happen.  Bless you Weka’s – you Rock. Good Luck for Saturday team and go Skyweka – We are with you every stride.
