CC About to join the Rae Stable and Trainer Terri Triumphs on Saturday

CC Weka returned to Woodside farm on Friday for a brief spell, after a couple of months in the Central Districts working with Leon Mudgeway. She spent some time at the Woodville track last week and her work and common sense attitude was “like gold”, said Leon, who was very happy with her. She took everything in her stride and could not be faulted. CC had a busy morning on Friday (July 17th) at the Woodville track and was immediately loaded onto the float for a trip back to Greytown and home to Woodside Farm. CC was a bit sweaty when immediately offloaded from the float, but we couldn’t resist taking a quick snapshot of her before she settled into her paddock with her mum Spera in an adjoining paddock – you can see them eyeing each other in this paddock with breeder Les Wallace supervising the proceedings. CC is furnishing into a lovely filly and looks like she is going to be bigger and stronger than her sisters Morweka and Wekaforce.

CC Weka back from the Woodville track and photographed straight off the float. A bit tired and sweaty but happy to be back at Woodside with Les Wallace and David Knowles. It is time for a brief spell before heading on her first OE – off to the South Island and into the capable hands of Trainer Terri Rae

CC will have a brief spell before joining her sisters at the Terri Rae Stable in Christchurch. Trainer Terri Rae will be managing her two year old education and we are all looking forward to that – including the team at Rae’s stable. They have a bit of a soft spot for these Wekas. Terri had a great day on Saturday (18th July) taking out four wins and a second – read the story from the ANZ Bloodstock News.

Four-timer for Rae
Riccarton trainer Terri Rae made her way to Timaru yesterday with high hopes of a good showing from her eight-strong team but even she was blown away by the day’s final winning tally. Victories for Paint Me Red (Battle Paint), Scarfi (Makfi), Hatrick Boys (Makfi) and Newmarket (Reliable Man) gave Rae a winning quartet in partnership with National Jockeys’ premiership leader Lisa Allpress, who was aboard all four successful runners. Rae was beaming as she made her way back to Christchurch, although she admitted her confidence took a knock when race favourite Razor (Roc De Cambes) was beaten into second in the first race on the card. “I knew the team was well so I thought I might be able to win three, but when Razor got beaten in the first, I started to have second thoughts,” Rae said. “Paint Me Red did win nicely in race two though and that got us on a roll, but to win four was an unexpected but really special result for the day.”

Allpress certain to take jockeys’ title
TAB bookmakers have put up the white flag and are paying out on Lisa Allpress winning the National Jockeys’ premiership. A double aboard Happy Star (Fabulous) and Penelope Cruise (Ocean Park) at Awapuni on Saturday put her 12 wins clear of nearest rival Kozzi Asano with just two weeks and seven meetings left in a season tipped upside down by the Covid-19 pandemic. Allpress, who went on to ride four winners at Timaru yesterday, is delighted to sit atop the premiership once again, the fourth time in a career that began back in the 1995/96 season when she started an apprenticeship with master trainer Kevin Gray. “It’s one of those things that wasn’t in the plan at the start of the season,” she said. “I just kept whacking away and managed to get on some nice horses that kept winning.”
