Maryweka showed a bit of class racing for a creditable fourth place at Riccarton on Saturday on a heavy ten track from the outside draw.

Jumping from the outside draw, Maryweka relaxed at the back of the field and covered extra ground coming into the straight where she travelled home strongly making up ground and was still keen to keep going well after the finish line. Terri was encouraged with Mary’s performance “She went super”. Maryweka was happily back in her paddock munching on a bit of grass that evening, and Terri opted to leave her out for the night as the forecast was for rain the next day in which case Maryweka would be spending a day in doors. The next plan for Maryweka is to race her at Ashburton on the 4th of July in a 1600m race.

Terri will update us during the week and all going well we can check out the nominations for Ashburton on July 4th.

For Want of a Shoe – Terri Moves the Goal Post

Our little filly is a bit of a minx – she kicked out and lost a shoe yesterday afternoon. Not ideal just a couple of days out from the races. She was a bit tender in the hoof after losing the shoe and the farrier wasn’t going to be able to replace it until this afternoon so it was off to the swimming pool this morning. Terri Rae decided to scratch Maryweka from the Oamaru races, but fortunately she had nominated Maryweka for a rating 75 – 1400m race at Riccarton on Saturday, so the decision has been made to ‘pull the plug’ on the race at Oamaru and head for Riccarton. Race 7 @ 3.15pm

Bah Humbug! We don’t seem to be having any luck in the barrier draws in recent times, as Maryweka will jump from barrier draw 14 in a 14 horse field in Race 7 at 3.15pm. Check out the fields here.

Maryweka Good to Go Racing this Week

Since racing on the 24th of May, Maryweka has been working solidly and Terri has selected a 1400 metre race at Oamaru on Thursday 20th for her next start. Race 6 at 2.37pm with Jockey Leah Hemi on board. Maryweka has barrier draw 10 in a field of 13 runners.

Check out the fields here:

Terri said Maryweka worked keenly with a buddy this morning and is good to go. At the time of writing the track at Oamaru was a heavy 9 with rain and drizzle forecast. Hoping it will clear somewhat before Mary steps up. Good Luck Maryweka and team Terri Rae.

Bonnieweka’s First Trial Done and Dusted – now out for a Spell

Bonnieweka finished off her successful 2yo education and training regime today with a trip to Timaru and a trial at the Phar Lap Raceway. Finishing fourth in a field of six, Bonnieweka jumped well and travelled nicely for the 800 metre 2yo catchweight trial ridden by Denby Rose Tait.

Terri reported that Bonnie had a big day. “She did everything right and had a nice experience on the grass track. She will now go out for a spell and it was a good learning note for her to go out on”. Terri also commented that Bonnieweka needs a bit more time to grow and develope and that sometime in the paddock will enable her to mature before coming back into work after a break. It was a long day today and it looks like she is happy to be back in the yard with a nice package of hay to munch into.

Bonnieweka All Set for a Trial on Sunday at Timaru 9/6/24

Bonnieweka is ready for a great experience this weekend. She will travel down to Timaru to contest a two year old trial on the grass track at Waimate’s Phar Lap Raceway. The weather has been co-operating and it will be a good opportunity for her.

Bonnieweka is horse number 11 in a field of six horses. Heat two is scheduled to jump at 11.10am on Sunday morning. Click here to view the field

As soon as we get the news I will update you sometime on Sunday. In the meantime view the latest update from our trainer Terri Rae.

Update from Bonnieweka’s Trainer Terri Rae

Maryweka Just Cruising post raceday and pre her next start.

Maryweka has been enjoying some quiet work after her race last week. Terri has just been taking it quietly with Mary and it will be two or three weeks before she has her next start. Check out the latest update from Terri, who will be back in touch with us later in the week with more news about Mary as she quietly builds up to another race day.

Bonnieweka all set for her First Trial

Bonnieweka’s first trial will be at Timaru on Sunday the 9th June – witnesses are welcome

“Bonnieweka has done a really good job this time in,” said Trainer Terri Rae. In this weeks update we see Bonnieweka doing a little bit of pacework on the poly track in preparation for her first trial at TImaru on Sunday the 9th of June. Terri said she the float trip away and the trial experience will be good for her and then she will go out for a spell before resuming her training programme. Everything has gone very well for Bonnieweka. It has been steady as you go and she has had a variety of experiences with plenty of time to get her head around being a race horse. The length of time she has had with her preparation is sure to stand her in good stead.

Bonnieweka on Target for a trial 4th June

Bonnieweka is progressing nicely. Below is the video footage of her workout on Saturday the 25th of May – a cold frosty morning with the likelihood of sunshine during the day.

Next Stop – the trials at Riccarton next week on Tuesday June 4th on the polytrack. No travel involved and this should be a good experience for Bonnieweka – from there it is likely she will have a spell before resuming her training routine in preparation for her first race.

More news closer to trial day everyone

Maryweka Travels to Wingatui 23rd May 2024

Maryweka is set to go racing tomorrow.

Today – Thursday 23rd May, she travelled down to Wingatui and was the ‘perfect traveller’.

After racing in a field of 14 horses in her last start, tomorrow she will be one of five runners – horse #5 and barrier draw 5. It will be interesting to see what unfolds tomorrow. She has had to travel and Kith ‘n’ Kin might be hard to beat. We will need a bit of luck. We get weight relief from our young apprentice rider Denby Rose Tait who has ridden her during training, which is a help. She has travelled well and is about to go out for a nice long walk before dinner. Let’s hope she is in a competitive frame of mind when she goes racing tomorrow. Good Luck everyone. Goooo Maryweka!!!

How is Bonnie doing? Bonum!

Bonnie is Good to have around, she has settled in well at Terri Rae’s stable and after working out with her big sister Maryweka last week, this week she showed a newbie to the stable how to behave professionally whilst working out at the Riccarton Track.  I think you will enjoy the latest updates from Terri from Saturday morning’s workout in the frost to today’s morning workout in the rain – nothing seems to faze her and she has taken everything in her stride.  Way to go Bonnieweka!
