Maryweka update Sept 7th 2023

Further to Maryweka’s post race report dated 2nd Sept and noted below, Les agreed to touch base with Terri after Maryweka had a few days in the paddock after her race last week at Riccarton.  Although Maryweka has come through the race well, Terri reported that during this training preparation Mary is just not thriving as she has done and has been a very ‘picky eater’, which makes it difficult to put the work into them when they are not ‘licking the bowl clean’ as they say in racing circles. Terri is still very enthusiastic about Maryweka, ‘She won her three races last season in fine form and showed that she is competitive. I would like to spell her now and bring her back after a couple of months to give her a preparation and race her late summer early autumn”. Les agreed with Terri that letting up on Maryweka and spelling her now would be a good decision going forward. Neither Les or Terri want to ‘pull the plug’ on Mary, they are acknowledging that Maryweka needs some time out and that paddock time would be the best forerunner for her next campaign. Have a listen to Les’s comments below.

Les Wallace discusses Maryweka 7/9/23

Maryweka Post Race Report Sept 2nd 2023

Maryweka’s first race for her Spring campaign wasn’t a perfect performance. She jumped well from barrier draw 11 and Jockey Nirajan Parmer got her into a good position on the inside rail.

You can view the race here:

It was a full field of fourteen runners and unfortunately Maryweka got galloped on, and lost a back shoe which didn’t help the overall outcome. Terri spoke to Les and said she would see how Maryweka pulls through the race and get back to us mid week with an update. Our trainer Terri Rae comments here
